Assistant Editor (Idaho Mountain Express newspaper)

From June 2006 to October 2008 I co-managed a ten-reporter newsroom for Idaho’s most award-winning small newspaper, the Idaho Mountain Express in Ketchum, Idaho.

Work included assuming full responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief in his absence, up to a month at a time and several months in total. Day-in and day-out responsibilities included editing news, features and editorials for content and grammar, planning future issues and maintaining employee morale. I also assisted with personnel issues including hiring and resource management, and undertook several large investigative journalism projects.

During 10 years with the Idaho Mountain Express, I was promoted from Reporter to Senior Reporter and, finally, Assistant Editor. For my final three or four years with the organization, I was the newspaper’s go-to reporter for investigative and/or sensitive topics.
